Who we are
The Chicago Chinese American Historical Society (CCAHS)
is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit, scientific, educational,
literary, and cultural organization. We are incorporated
in the state of Illinois. Our mission is to collect, study,
interpret and disseminate the histories of Chinese communities
in the Chicagoland area, Illinois, the Midwest, and in the
US generally. We achieve our goals through any number of
means, such as walking tours, archival development and oral
history collection, publications, exhibits, lectures and
workshops, among others.
Chung Ngai Gene Moy, President
Gene Moy is a yiyuen of the Moys' Family Association
in Chicago and performs with the Chicago Chinese Cultural Center.
In his thesis, Suspicious Minds: a data-based approach
to Chinese Exclusion in the Midwest, 1911-1940, he studied
immigration patterns among 200 early Chinese Chicagoans. He
was a senior contributor to A. Magazine's Eastern Standard
Time (Mariner Press, 1997) and was formerly National Coordinator
for the Asian Community Online Network. He has seven years
experience working in academia, nonprofits, and corporate worlds.
He received his MA in Asian American Studies from UCLA, and
has studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
and the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Elaine Sit, Vice President
Elaine C. Sit is legal advisor for the Chinese Consolidated
Benevolent Association (CCBA) as well as an officer
and member of the board of the Chinese American Bar
Association of Chicago. She is author of several articles
on Chinese American life including one on the year
1912 for the Sun-Times' 20th Century Chicago: 100
Years, 100 Voices. Her award winning law review
article, "Broken Promises", was published
by the University of California Boalt Hall Asian
Law Review on the subject of the status of expropriated
property of huaqiao in the PRC. She is a former
print journalist and worked extensively in news, film
and video production in San Francisco and in Atlanta
at local television stations and at CNN Headline News.
She received her MA from the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign and her JD from IIT Chicago-Kent
College of Law.
Sybil Moy Chin, Secretary-Treasurer
Sybil Moy Chin works for the Community Prosecutions
Division of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
She has
worked for the Chicago Police Department's CAPS program,
was formerly executive director of the Chicago Chinatown
Chamber of Commerce and executive assistant at the Chinese
American Service League. She received her BA from Loyola
University. |
